Zakat to family

Because of my gold and silver jewellery zakat is fard on me. I also have my salary and side business income. On the other hand my father in law has some loan. My husband is paying this loan. Actually they had sone interest based loan and to pay that loan quickly my husband took loan from his friends. Which is not interest based. But the total amount of loan is pretty high. Till now zakat is not fard on my husband. Can I give my zakat money to him so that he can use it to pau the loan. His loan is around 5 times than his monthly income.

Walikum Assalam

No you can’t do that to whom zakat should be paid there is a ruling. You can’t pay your zakat to your father or husband for their loans.

When you calculate your zakat from an amount you must reduce the borrowed amount then you will see if you falls under nisab or not.

Total Saving/anum - Debts - Expenditures = Amount on which zakat should be paid.

Please pardon my ignorance. Are you mufti of this forum?

The NZF link provided above is more than sufficient as an answer.

Only family members zakat can be given to are siblings, uncles, aunts, cousins and nephews/nieces.
