Zakat for unemployed person

Dear Brothers, As-Salamu Alaykum. I am currently unemployed due to the covid situation. And completely depends on my father’s income. I am taking money from my father to run my own family. I am married and my wife inherited a quite amount of gold from her family. I would like to know that

  1. Do I have to pay zakat as I have no income source for more than a year?
  2. is it mandatory for the me to pay the zakat as my wife has no income too?

Just to clarify a little more - I am taking money from my father to fulfil the basic needs of me and my wife.

May Allah bless you.

  1. If your zakatable assets reache the nissab amount on your zakat anniversary date, then yes you must pay zakat.
    If you cannot afford to pay in one go then try to pay in instalments.
    On the other hand if you have zakatable wealth below the nissab and completely depends on your father’s help, then you might not have to pay zakat.

  2. your wife is responsible for her own zakat on her gold.
