Working in development bank such as WORLDBANK

salam aleikum

I have recently started working as an environmental specialist at the world bank, where I’d be reviewing and monitoring the compliance of recipient/borrower countries to environmental and social policies of the bank.

Does the world bank qualifies as a typical bank?
The IDA gives low/interest free loan to poorest countries.
I heard that even with jobs unrelated to banking can be considered haram in a bank ,
is my salary considered from haram or halal source ?
I looked up where the funds of the world bank, but since I’m not as specialist I couldn’t understand a word.

Jazaka allah kher

Wasalam

May Allah bless you.
The world development bank should not be considered as same as a typical bank.
Neverthless, it is not permissible to be directly involved with interest dealings.
Similarly, if your role only involves the monitoring of environmental and social policies, then these policies must not contravene shariah either.

And Allah knows best!

Salaam I had a related question

I wanted to know whether it would be appropriate to take a job in government, working on the policy/delivery of a national infrastructure bank. The bank would deliver key infrastructure projects but this would be primarily through issuance of loans.I would not be working for the bank but working to develop its framework.

Would this be permissible?

Wa alaykum salaam,

What would your job description involve specifically?
