I am AI/ML expert and was presented recently with an opportunity for a position within a physical commodity trading company (focus on energy).
The company trades on the energy markets and assumes reception and delivery of the goods. They do also have their own energy production facilities and they do handle all the logistics. In this sense they focus and trading the physical goods and their distribution. They do cover countries, large organisations worldwide and given the complexities of the logistics (moving a ship across the globe) the delivery can take months. They do use futures to hedge their positions against price movements.
Regarding the job, it’s about leading AI and machine learning efforts to support various aspects of the business: traders, analysts, researchers etc
Problems are not about price prediction or automatic trading systems but focus more about understanding supply & demand, large data analysis to understand the landscape.
Given the above, and knowing that dérivâtes are forbidden, would this job be considered permissible/impermissible or doubtful (shubha)?
