Are the shares / stocks used by wahed invest debt free?

The instruments Wahed use are mainstream Islamic funds/ sukuk funds or gold. The Islamic funds are governed by standard Islamic screening criteria so they will allow upto 33% debt. So in most Wahed portfolios there will definitely be some debt.

When say “dept” you lean dept with interest? If it is the case, how can we say that it is halal? And why 33% would be ok and not 34% for example.
