Urgent Help - Job at Roku - Consumer Technology/Video streaming

Asalamalaikum,

I hope you’re all well

I have been offered a job at Roku who are company that make streaming sticks for TV’s and also host their own streaming channel and have advertising upon their platform which they monetise from.

My role is in marketing whereby I’ll be promoting the streaming sticks in retailers like Argos and Amazon to help to grow market share for their products, however alongside this I will have to promote content which is offered on their platforms such as films and music of which some of this may be questionable to watch.

They also offer stock options as part of the package and from checking Zoya it shows that 28.71% of their revenue is compliant (mainly from players) and 71.29% is questionable due to being from advertising and/or containing objectionable content or un-islamic products and services.

So my questions are would it be

a) permissible for me to work in such a role
b) what would be the best option for the shares that are included (as far as i’ve checked they don’t let you take a base salary only with no shares)

If I can please get some urgent advice on this issue I would be hugely grateful as I work in consumer technology but haven’t had this dilemma before due to mainly promoting devices such as Laptops/smartphones.

Jazak Allah khair

Wasalam

May Allah bless you.

Not every entertainment is haram, but since some are, I would advice to refrain from working in a role where you have to actively promote potential haram contents. And since, their revenues are also questionable, it makes even more sense not to work for them.

However, if you are desperately in need of a job, then do take this one until you find something more suitable for yourself.

And Allah knows best!
