Pay off student loan before big purchases?

Assalamu alaykum,

Hope you are well in sha Allah.

I had a question I hope you could briefly answer. I am currently working as a teacher but had taken out a loan for my 1 year PGCE study.

Is it recommended to pay off this 9k loan first before making any big purchases or going for things like Umrah?

If interest is being charged and accruing, you should seek to free yourself from this as soon as possible.
