Is this hedge fund internship halal?

I’m a 2nd year student at uni and have received an offer from a major hedge fund to intern in their operations fixed income valuations role. Having read the “Is my job haram?” article by Ibrahim Khan, I am still unsure. The role is only an internship (likely to convert to a full time role), involves creating yield curves (interest rate graphs), pricing bonds, options, derivatives etc. Which are then used by the front office to come up with ideas on what to buy/sell within fixed income. So in a sense I’m creating graphs and data which will HELP inform decisions on buying/selling some interest-based financial products.

Here are my questions:

  1. Is this role haram?
  2. My long term goal is to help the ummah and go into islamic finance later on- I’ve heard arguments that in Islamic finance we need people to understand such financial products- does this affect anything?
  3. Furthermore, this role is temporary- it is likely that if I get the job offer one of two things will happen:
    a) I take the job and try make my way out of fixed income into other teams that are less involved with interest
    b) (more likely) I leverage this for a different role at a hedge fund/prop trading firm that is much less involved with interest

In terms of alternatives, yes I have some other offers which would give me 1- much less money (I’m not materialistic so doesn’t matter too much but still important) 2- much less impact in helping be find a better role next year as this current internship is very prestigious.

I appreciate any advice on this.
