Assalamualaikum
I am a Muslim woman in the UK who is an accountant. To avoid riba uptil now, I have only worked in large to medium sized companies ( industry) selling household retail products or in manufacturing house related items. I stick to Management Accountant, Financial Analyst , Finance Business Partner roles within these businesses which revolve around managing internal accounts and looking at overall profitability, costing , sales , making profit and loss for divisions , budgeting , forecasting etc and avoid working on the financial accounting side where tax and interest comes in as each company would have some degree of debt and interest associated with it. I avoid working in smaller companies where one accountant looks at all areas of finance which would mean involvement in recording interest or approving an interest payment etc
I would like to know
- Is it permissible to work in such roles in industry where product is halal so revenue is halal but the company probably has taken a debt and must be paying interest on it that am I reflecting as an expense in their reports?
- Is it permissible to move to a small company where revenue it generates is permissible but i will be dealing in recording or signing off interest payments for loans the company has taken?
- I work in hybrid role mostly from home but also go to work few days . Both remotely and in office I do deal with non mehram men for work purposes but do not keep in touch out side work or have conversations beyond work capacity. Is it permissible for a Muslim woman in the west to have such a role?
- Given there are not many Islamic finance jobs in the UK, what permissible jobs can a Muslim woman with a business and accountancy qualification do apart from starting own business or being a teacher ?
JazakAllah khayrun for your response in advance
