Salaams,
I am a Software Tester and my role ended in January this year. I have been applied to many vacancies, both local and further afield based on a hybrid working system.
I have noticed that the market is currently saturated with jobseekers looking for the same roles. Some roles have received over 700 applications.
It came to a point where I was applying to as many roles as possible where I could find a skillset requirement that matched my experience. Usually the name of the company being applied for is not disclosed on the job advert.
I received a call from a recruiter who invited me to an interview at Cambridge and Counties Bank based in Leicester (where I live). I went to the interview and it went well and they have invited me back for a second interview.
During my interview I realised that the majority of the functions of the bank where based around interest based activities. They deal with Savings, Property Finance, Asset Finance and Specialist Car Finance. They mentioned their services are not available to domestic individuals but rather to organisations, trusts and bodies. They deal with specialist finance like agricultural equipment (think yellow machinery) and classic collectable cars.
My initial feeling about this company would be that I wouldn’t want to be part of a system that enables the use of something disallowed (riba). After speaking to people close to me, I was advised to at least seek information from a scholar to determine whether this is allowed or disallowed before making my decision.
I’m not sure if all the information I’ve provided is helpful or not however I would rather give all the information I have and get the truest answer possible to my situation.
I don’t know if I will pass the second stage of this interview. If I do, would it be allowed for me to work there? Would my income be Halal?
Allah knows what is best for us. I would rather turn down this opportunity and wait for something better that is halal and wholesome
Jazakallah khaire in advance
Salaams
Omar
