I had a question. Is working as a debt collector for hmrc a halal job? The debts owed to hmrc have interest added to it and our job is to inform the customers of the debt (including interest accrued) they owe, sometimes customers call to make payment of these debt which we sometimes need to take over telephone etc. We are just getting paid for our attendance and work assigned to us (civil service)

Collecting a debt in itself is not impermissible, however if you are also responsible to collect the interest payment then this could be problematic from a shariah perspective.
My advice is that you look for another suitable job but to not leave the current one until you do find it.
