I’m a financial analyst currently working in Alternatives for an asset management firm.
My role consists of completing reports for potential investment opportunities (the majority of my work so far has been in infrastructure, the opportunity I worked on related to climate investing) and monitoring funds we currently invest in (which consists of checking quarterly reports and assessing performance). The company I work for is managed by public councils (a pension pool) and so my salary is budgeted by those councils.
I don’t directly advise on what to and what to not invest in as I’m relatively junior.
Recently I’ve been questioning the legitimacy of my job especially as there is a lot of general worry around investment and halal investing. Before taking on further opportunities in this area I wanted to know what the sharia implications are.
