Is it halal to enter competitions where there is no outlay of money required? For example, many companies use this as a way of marketing where they can use the email address provided to enter the competition to provide more information on their products. Other companies require you to follow them on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram etc. With each of this being a competition entry. Is this like gambling or are you just participating in the marketing activity of a company as a potential customer?

Wa alaykum salaam,

If no monetary payment or any staking of anything from your side is required, then technically it is not gambling. This is just entering into a competition where you’ve given consent for your email address and data to be used.
