I had my bank account closed and the bank after saying it would take around 4 weeks to transfer my funds ended up taking 3 months. I filed a complaint immediately and 2 months after I received my money they said they would offer me £59.47 compensation for the late payment of which I will give the breakdown here:
“To put things right weʼre going to pay you £59.47 in compensation for the time youʼve been without your money. The breakdown of this is:
● General compensation £50.00
● 8% interest on £1270.36 refund total from 18 June 2024 to 22 July 2024
£9.47”
I’m sure I can’t accept the 9.47 interest but I’m not sure if I can accept the £50 compensation as I see it as a sort of late fee that the bank is paying me and I believe late payment fees to be haram. Please advise whether I can accept or not.
