Coinbase Earn rewards

Asalamu alaikum

I earned* a little bit of cryptocurrencies (XLM, EOS, GRT, ALGO, KNC, COMP, MKR, CGLD) by answering some quiz questions on Coinbase and later converted them into Bitcoin. I can only find out 2 (XLM, EOS) out of 8 coins I earned to be shariah compliant, the rest I have no clue. Is their worth I converted into Bitcoin halal or haram?

*“Coinbase Earn allows eligible customers to learn about different cryptocurrencies via educational content. Eligible Coinbase users are able to “unlock” lessons on top of the content where they can earn crypto.”

Wa alaykum salaam,

You would need to understand whether the tokens received are Shariah compliant in order to benefit from their value.

In principle, something which is not Shariah compliant holds no value from a Shariah perspective for a Muslim. To gain from that value will be unlawful as the value is nullified. As such, that conversion will also be a problem as a person would be taking benefit from unrecognised value.

JazakAllah Khair shaykh! I appreciate the help.

So do I calculate which percentage of the conversion I need to donate? Like whatever initial amount from Haram coins got converted into Bitcoin, whatever that value is now? For an example, 8 of the coins were converted to Bitcoin, and I find out 4 were Haram, and the whole portfolio is worth 100 USD now. Do I donate 50% of the current value/coins of Bitcoin?
