I work for a wealth management firm in Toronto and I have an opportunity in the equity capital markets department. I would like to know the permissibility of working in such, as it will lead to a career in investment banking.

I also have another opportunity working in the retail side, as an associate for an advisor. Would this role be more permissible as my primary role won’t include debt based instruments for the organization.

Any help or guidance will be greatly appreciated.

These are the job description for the ECM role. It is entry but I rather fear where a career in this role can lead to.

Separately this is the associate role I am also considering. My question is does the advisors clients investment have to be all halal to take the job or is it okay to execute trades on the behalf of the advisor even if the products may be haram.
