Asalaamualykum,

is a buy to let mortgage halal?

Due to the tenant being the one paying the interest but then again it maybe haram due to being the initiator.

Is there a way to make the mortgage halal by structuring a contract with the tenant?
Is this something that muslims do today?

or is an islamic buy to let mortgage the only solution (other than paying outright)?

Assalaamu alaykum,

A buy to let mortgage with a conventional mortgage is not permissible even if the tenant is paying. You as the customer of the bank are responsible for the interest.

You may consider a buy to let from an Islamic bank.
