Islamic perspective on GameStop, price manipulation and heavily shorted stocks

Assalamu Alaikum,

Putting aside the permissibility/impermissibility of GameStop stock (this can happen to any company), what would the Islamic perspective be on participating in the type of concerted stock price manipulation that we have seen recently with this stock, and to a lesser extent, are seeing with a few others as well such as BlackBerry? Is it okay to participate in this if the stock itself is halal?

Also, GameStop is a heavily shorted stock. Are we allowed to purchase shares in a stock that is heavily shorted? I haven’t heard of any restrictions in this regard, but if we purchase shares in such a company, doesn’t it mean we may end up purchasing something that technically was sold by a short seller and is actually owned by someone else?

JazakAllah khair

Wasalam

May Allah bless you.
